Super Tax Concessions 2026-27: Calculate How Much Tax You Actually Save
Australia's superannuation system offers some of the most generous tax concessions in the world — contributions taxed at 15% instead of your marginal rate (up to 47%). But with Division 293, Division 296, and the new better-targeted concessions regime taking effect, calculating your actual benefit has become genuinely complex.
What Changed for 2026-27
The key changes affecting super tax concessions this financial year:
- Concessional cap: $30,000/year (unchanged)
- Non-concessional cap: $120,000/year (3-year bring-forward: $360,000)
- Division 293: Extra 15% on super contributions if income + super > $250,000
- Division 296: Additional 15% on earnings for balances above $3 million (effective from 1 July 2025)
- Employer SG rate: 12% (up from 11.5%)
- LISTO: Tax offset refunds the 15% for income ≤$37,000
- Government co-contribution: Up to $500 for income ≤$60,400
What the Calculator Shows
The Super Tax Concessions Calculator takes your income, super balance, contribution plans, and age — then calculates:
- Tax on concessional contributions (15% or 30% if Division 293 applies)
- Tax saved vs your marginal rate — the actual concession value
- Division 296 estimate for balances above $3 million
- LISTO and co-contribution eligibility
- Effective tax rate: super earnings vs personal income
Who Benefits Most
| Income Range | Marginal Rate | Super Tax | Concession Value | |-------------|--------------|-----------|-----------------| | $18,201–$45,000 | 19% | 15% | 4% saved | | $45,001–$120,000 | 32.5% | 15% | 17.5% saved | | $120,001–$180,000 | 37% | 15% | 22% saved | | $180,001–$250,000 | 45% | 15% | 30% saved | | $250,001+ | 47% | 30%* | 17% saved |
*Division 293 adds 15% making total super tax 30% for high earners.
